Sweden is to reintroduce military conscription from next year in response to rising tensions with Russia in the Baltic Sea region.
The defence ministry in Stockholm said 4,000 young people — both women and men — would be called up for basic military training in 2018 and 2019 as the “security environment in Europe and in Sweden's vicinity has deteriorated”.
