First Marine F-35C Squadron Certified As ‘Safe for Flight’

The U.S. Marine Corps has declared a F-35C squadron "safe for flight" for the first time, the Marines announced on Monday.

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., was certified on Friday after five months of training, and temporary relocation, at Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif.

The Safe-for-Flight Operations Certification allows the squadron, known as the Black Knights, to train on, and operate, the planes independently of the U.S. Navy's F-35C fleet replacement squadron.
