Thunder’s Sound and Fury Signifies What for Russian Armed UAVs?

Russia's recent Armiya 2020 show was notable for the appearance of armed UAVs and UCAVs currently in development, writes Douglas Barrie. But how many of these capabilities will see service?

Russia’s Armiya 2020 arms show took place from 23−29 August, near Moscow. It was notable for the appearance of mock-ups of armed uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAV) and the Grom (Thunder) seven-tonne uninhabited combat air vehicle (UCAV). With these developments, Russia’s defence industry is exhibiting intent. The nagging questions, however, are how many of these capabilities will actually see service and, if so, how quickly they can be introduced.
